The Challenge

Reimagining a space with history.

For its new Originals flagship in Downtown Los Angeles, adidas set out to create more than a conventional retail store. Located within a former check-cashing business on South Broadway, the two-level space was conceived as a cultural hub for LA’s creative community, bringing together product, events, workshops and local collaborations.

The design deliberately retained the raw character and history of the existing building, contrasting it with bold adidas Originals branding, refined materials and contemporary retail interventions. That tension between old and new was central to the concept.

For Rizlly, the challenge was to help translate this creative direction into a physical retail environment without losing the character that made the space distinctive. From early concepts and store layouts through to bespoke fixtures and large-scale stainless-steel elements, every detail needed to balance the raw architectural backdrop with the precision and premium finish expected of a global adidas Originals flagship.

OUR SCOPE

Precision behind the vision.

Rizlly supported the project from early concept development and store layouts through to engineering, production and delivery of bespoke retail elements.

Our scope included the development and manufacture of custom fixtures and large-scale stainless-steel wall elements, with our team refining and re-engineering details where required to turn the creative intent into production-ready solutions.

Drawing on years of experience delivering adidas projects, the focus throughout was on protecting the original design vision while ensuring each element could be manufactured, finished and delivered to the required flagship standard.

EXECUTION

Contrast, carefully crafted.

The DTLA concept celebrates contrast. Original architectural surfaces and the raw history of the building provide the backdrop, while adidas blue, stainless steel and precisely detailed contemporary fixtures introduce a distinctly Originals identity.

Within that environment, Rizlly’s role was to take the creative concept and resolve it for manufacture. The large stainless-steel walls became a defining part of the execution, requiring careful engineering and production to achieve their scale while retaining the clean, refined finish demanded by the design.

Custom-made fixtures were developed with the same approach. Details were fine-tuned and, where necessary, re-engineered to ensure the finished pieces worked technically without compromising the intended proportions, materiality or visual impact.

The result is a deliberately restrained fixture language that sits confidently against the building’s raw fabric. Rather than competing with its history, the new elements create contrast, giving adidas Originals a flexible backdrop for curated product, changing stories and future creative activations.

OUTCOME

A flagship that keeps evolving.

The completed DTLA flagship gives adidas Originals a permanent home within the creative heart of Los Angeles, combining retail with a flexible platform for community, culture and collaboration.

For Rizlly, the project demonstrates the value of being involved beyond production alone. From early layouts and concept development to engineering and final manufacture, the team helped turn an ambitious creative direction into precisely executed physical elements.

A raw historic setting, bold new interventions and a flagship built to keep evolving with the city around it.
